How to generate leads in ways you might not have thought of - whatever your industry

Hands up who has asked themselves the following question this year:

How do I generate new leads?

It can be hard work at the best of times, and with the added dimension of the wide ranging changes we have all experienced (and continue to experience), it could be time to explore new ways to reach new prospective customers.

Here are four ways that could help you get those conversations started.

  1. Host a webinar

Hosting a webinar has so many benefits: you’ll position yourself as the expert in your field and show that you care about providing something valuable to your audience. It’s a great way to start building relationships and trust with the people you want to connect with. And, with the entire planet having to make the switch to online and conduct their meetings via video platform this year, most people are more than comfortable with the format. Come up with a subject that provides genuine value for your audience and you’ll score sign ups. Universities UK have hosted a variety of free webinars throughout lockdown and beyond which have been sell-outs - even online events have a maximum capacity!

  1. Host an online event

Taking the webinar concept even further, you could consider holding a full blown virtual event: call it a conference, symposium, festival, fireside chat - whatever format works the best for you and your audience. This one obviously takes a lot of consideration and planning, but with the added benefit of costs being significantly lower than an in person event. We were so impressed with the Festival of Higher Education, run by the University of Buckinghamshire, with a killer line-up of speakers, sessions and debate. 

  1. Livechat 
Nailed it

Having a live chat module on your website allows you to help people faster; a recent study revealed that 9 out of 10 people said they expect to be able to use live chat messaging to get help from companies online by using bots (not the terrible ones of the bad old days, but the sophisticated and genuinely helpful kind). So if you don’t have live chat, you could be losing leads, but the good news is you can get one on your website for free! There are absolutely loads of platforms that offer this service - Hubspot, Drift and Autopilot being just three. We use Hubspot here at Terrier Marketing, but there are lots to choose from - it depends on your needs as to which is the right one for you.

  1. Become a Quora guru

Who has typed a question into Google and had a Quora answer come up as the first search result? See how this might be beneficial for you...your audience might just see your answer on Quora, positioning you very nicely as an expert in your subject. 

It’s also interesting to see the kinds of questions your audience is asking (which could in turn influence your content marketing - but that’s another post that I need to write!)

You can also use Quora to drive traffic to your website - use a snackable answer on the platform itself and include a link to a blog post that goes into more detail. Just make sure you answer questions in a helpful, non-promotional way.

Lastly, I think it challenges you to think about how to reply to a particular question, research your response and craft a nicely succinct response. All good skills that we could do with keeping sharp in general, right?
